Children who are just starting out need a firm foundation on which to build. A foundation poorly laid will crumble later, so I take extra care in working with children taking their first steps.
Beginners are welcome to start lessons during the summer or during a week-long school break. For one week, I see the student 5 days in a row for 30-45 minutes for a beginner's workshop. The student encounters preparatory steps in music reading, rhythm, aural skills and technique.
Parents will often find the beginning experiences of their child are quite different from their own, so I encourage parents to sit in on the lessons. Help at home should reinforce what happens in the lesson in a cohesive, consistent way to avoid confusion.
After the first week, the student comes for a weekly 45-minute private lesson. Tuition for the beginner's workshop is charged separately from regular tuition. $175 (books included)
